Fabian Cancellara starts the year brilliantly by winning Challenge Mallorca in a long breakaway. Michal Kwiatkowski finishes 2nd for the second time this season and Tsiej Benoot, the young Lotto-Soudal rider completes the podium.

ASO pulls its competitions out of the world tour classification.

ASO, the company that owns the Tour de France want to pull all their competitions out of the World Tour classification and put them into the category below: .HC. They will do this in 2017. They will do this because they want to make the Tour have less people in it, they will be able to limit the teams and not let all the world tour teams in to the French competition.
